We live in very crazy times, don't we? The cinemas are closed, no one has been sitting in the bars for a long time and the scissors in the hairdressing salons are just lying around. The current pandemic affects us all and we'll probably be hearing about it for a while. But one can't only report bad things about the last few months. 2020 was mostly characterised by a certain hype.

Dunks never died out, but lost a bit of their shine over time. Releases became scarcer and scarcer and more and more sneakerheads focused on other essential sneakers, like the Air Jordan 1 High. Just under a year ago, Nike released more Dunks again, until the big boom came with Travis Scott, Supreme and other strong partners. From then on, it felt like every Dunk release was sold out in just a few seconds and flooded the resell markets.

Now, the Nike Dunk Low officially enters its 36th anniversary year and continues to build on the momentum of the last two years with a wave of releases it has received. Alongside some wild and quiet sneakers are these two Dunks in the "Orange Pearl" & "Hyper Cobalt" colourways. Some hypebeasts and fans think that Travis Scott was the trigger for the immense Dunk hype. But why are all the subsequent releases still in such high demand, even though the iterations look nowhere near as wild as La Flame's? Nobody can really explain the phenomenon, but it's clear that the classic and uncomplicated look is back and everyone loves it.

The Nike Dunk Low "Orange Pearl" probably presents the simple look best. The sneakers have a subtle colour blocking and remind us a little of the early days of the original Dunk. The eponymous shade, although it is more of a pink, paints most of the overlays as well as the laces and outsoles. Elsewhere we then see a "Sail" tone hitting the smooth panels, toe box and collar.

The silhouette is not new, but it deviates greatly from the colourway shown before. The Nike Dunk Low "Hyper Cobalt" has a black base made of smooth leather. This makes the iteration look very unfamiliar, as many previous releases were significantly lighter. This is followed by overlays made of the same leather in "Hyper Cobalt".

On the net, some enthusiasts already shared their opinion and put the Nike Dunk Low "Hyper Cobalt" next to the beloved Air Jordan 1. Maybe Nike got inspired by their own sneakers?

Yes, the Dunks may seem simple, but they have significantly more to offer than a straightforward design. Nike uses a high-quality and robust leather, which makes the sneakers suitable for everyday wear.

The whole shoe then sits on a modern foam midsole, which not only reduces weight but also offers responsive cushioning. Then, the padded collar follows for a sleek look as well as the durable rubber sole with classic basketball pivot for a traditional style.

Hopefully even the last sceptics agree now, because the sneakers not only look wild, but also feel very good on-feet. The Nike Dunk Low "Orange Pearl" drops on February 11th, while the "Hyper Cobalt" arrives on March 11th at Nike and selected retailers for 100€ each.
